Rainy Days - Just not this weekend!

Well – Happy Friday – and Happy Long Weekend, to everyone in Canada, that is. It is the Canada Day long weekend and official kick off of summer. I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing one!
Today is also the last day of this House Mouse feature week. I hope you’ve enjoyed it – I know I have. Yesterday some friends and I got together and shared our House Mouse stamps – so I have a whole lot of new images to colour and use for future posts – FUN!

Here’s today’s House Mouse card…

Make The Most Of Your Rainy Days!:
Card dimensions 5” h x 6 ½” w

Materials: CS – Blue (CostCo), Black, White (CTMH); Other paper – Vellum; Ink –Black StazOn, Heavenly Blue (CTMH); Stamp – Sitting In The Rain (House Mouse); Ribbon – lavender grosgrain (ribbon share texasjodylynn), White grosgrain (CTMH); Punches – large and small oval (SU!), Giga scalloped circle (Marvy); Prismacolor pencils, blue brads (Making Memories), Cuttlebug and embossing folder (Provocraft), mini pop dots, sponge, computer font for sentiment.

The inspiration for this card came from THIS POST on Amy Celona’s Stampin’ On blog. She did a beautiful scenery card using a vellum overlay with a stamped image, and coloured paper behind that. So this was my take on this technique.
First I made clouds on white CS using a punched Giga scalloped circle, as I showed you in THIS POST some time ago. Then I stamped my House Mouse image onto vellum using StazOn. After I let the vellum dry/set for a few minutes, I turned it over and coloured the image with my Prismacolor pencils, on the back (no blending with mineral spirits is needed). Once you turn it back over and place it on top of the stamped CS with clouds – it looks like big old rain clouds in the background!
I love the sentiment, too. Rainy Days… we all have them, and we just need to get through them, and make the most of it. But here’s hoping this Long Weekend has no rainy days!

Until next time, have a great day!

Time To Play - Version #2

Today’s card is Version #2 of a new baby girl card for a friend – which I mentioned in yesterday’s post. I think I am happiest with this one, as he has 2 boys and now a much-wanted little girl, so this fits them best! Congratulations Aaron and family, I sure hope Alexandra likes her card! It's on the way to her now!

Welcome to the Team – Baby Girl:
Card dimensions 5” h x 6 ½” w

Materials: CS – Chocolate, Blush, White (CTMH); PP – More to Adore (CTMH); Ink –Black (CTMH); Stamp – Time To Play (Happy Hoppers from House Mouse); Ribbon – Blue grosgrain (ribbon share texasjodylynn), Chocolate organza from Design Ribbon Round (CTMH); Punch – ticket corner (SU!), Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stump, pop dots, mini pop dots, computer font to match CTMH Blush colour.

To do the group of baseball bunnies, I first stamped the one on the bottom right and then the bottom left one. I then masked both of those, and stamped the one at the top/middle. When I mask – I use Post-it notes. I stamp the image on the Post-it note, making sure the top of the image is somewhere at the top of the Post-it – so that I can use the sticky strip to adhere it temporarily to the already stamped images on my cardstock. When I am done, I adhere the mask/Post-it onto the top of my wood-blocked stamp, so that I can use it another time!

Until next time, have a great day!

Time To Play

Today’s card is Version #1 of a new baby girl card for a friend. He already has 2 boys and has just had a little girl! I’m going for a feeling of “Welcome to the team!”.

Time To Play – Baby Girl:
Card dimensions 4 1/4” h x 5 ½” w
Materials: CS – Chocolate, Hollyhock, White (CTMH); PP – More to Adore (CTMH); Ink –Black (CTMH); Stamp – Time To Play (Happy Hoppers from House Mouse); Ribbon – Chocolate organza from Design Ribbon Round (CTMH); Cuttlebug and embossing folder (Provocraft), Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stump, pop dots, Hollyhock photo anchor/brad (CTMH).

I’ll have Version #2, using this same stamp, tomorrow. I am working on another idea that I think will be more fitting, and a better reflection of their family.

Until next time, have a great day!

Turtle Tuesday - House Mouse Style

Happy Turtle Tuesday!

As promised – this week’s Turtle Tuesday is a new House Mouse design! The new House Mouse stamps for this year are really cute, and of course this one caught my eye as it had a turtle on it!!!!!

Slow Poke Turtle:
Card dimensions 5” h x 6 ½” w

Materials: CS – Purple, Green (Bazzill), White (CTMH); PP – Chatterbox Inc.; Ink –Black (CTMH); Stamp – Slow Poke (House Mouse), Ribbon – Striped grosgrain ribbon (ribbon share - texasjodylynn); Cuttlebug and Tiny Bubbles embossing folder (Provocraft), Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stump, pop dots.

Lots of colouring to do on this image, so it took a bit of time to complete! But I am very pleased with the final look of this card. And you could have fun with the sayings that could go with this image:
Turtle Express Mail
Hey slow poke!
You can do it!
You make a difference!
Thanks for the lift!
Thanks for your help!
Just a note to catch you up to speed….
Need a hand?

And then for those of us that are a little twisted:
Are we there yet???
It’s hard to get good help!

Until next time, have a great day!

Special Delivery

Good Monday morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Well - some new House Mouse stamps arrived - and they are so cute. And I have some other House Mouse stamps that I have never really used (what??). So for this week, I will do a House Mouse feature every day. Wait until you see the one for Turtle Tuesday!!!

But before we get there - here is the card for today - it's a Special Delivery!

Special Delivery:
Card dimensions 5" h x 6 1/2" w.

Materials: CS - Real Red (SU!), Dark Grey (Bazzill), white (CTMH); Ink - Black (CTMH); Stamp - Special Delivery (House Mouse); Ribbon - dotted organza (Offray); Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stumps, liquid glass (CTMH).

From the photo, you can't see the liquid glass on the rain drops - it is very shiny and looks like real water drops. Here is a close up where I try to get it to shine in the light.

If you're interested in getting some of these stamps - check out the House Mouse site HERE.
Make sure you check back tomorrow for Turtle Tuesday!!
Until next time, have a great day!

Pretty Please....

Today's card is just a very quick one - sorry I haven't had much to post this week!
Every time I see this stamped image - I think of that saying "Pretty please...With a cherry on top!" It is so fitting for this image!

Pretty Please...
Card dimensions 4" w x 5" h.

Materials: (all supplies from CTMH unless otherwise noted) Ink - Archival Black; Punches - Mega circle, Giga scalloped circle (Marvy), horizontal slit (SU!); CS - Chocolate, Vanilla Cream, Paper - watercolor paper (Hilroy); Ribbon - chocolate grosgrain; Chocolate marker, Tombow markers, waterbrush, computer font.

Again, a little watercolouring with Tombow markers, and the CTMH Chocolate marker to tie the colours all together. A bit of doodling around the border of the Mega circle punch out - and that is it!

Question on Turtle Stamp Source

Just a quick post tonight to answer a question from Kathi on where I buy my turtle stamps.

All of mine are bought directly from Inky Antics. I always order on-line through their website and service has been excellent!
Here is a link to the on-line shopping page of their website - and the turtles are under the section called SPECIAL THEMES, and then you select CRITTER FRIENDS.

Inky Antics Shopping On-line

The clear stamp sets are so versatile and I love all the things you can do with the different accessories. Make sure you take a look, and give them a try!
Until next time......

Another Turtle Tuesday!

Happy Turtle Tuesday!
Today’s card is a quick and easy one! I used one of my little flower turtles that are sitting on my desk already stamped out. A bit of patterned paper, a quick colouring, some glitter and Voila! Done!

Peachy Turtle:
Card dimensions 4 ¼” h x 5 ½” w
Materials: CS – Blue (CostCo); PP – Dollarama; Paper – Watercolour paper (Hilroy); Ink –Archival Black (CTMH); Stamp – Flower turtle (Inky Antics), Punches – ticket corner (SU!); Ribbon – Grosgrain ribbon (ribbon share - texasjodylynn); Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stump, pop dots, glitter glue (Crayola).

Another one that is so simple and quick to make – these are so great to have on hand when you need a little note card. The glitter on the little flowers isn't showing well - but nice and sparkly in real life!
I am waiting for some new turtles to arrive (House Mouse and Inky Antics) and can’t wait to play with them! But those are for yet another Tuesday!

Until next time, have a great day!

A Book Of Love

**ETA - I have added in the poems from my DD's and DS's page for everyone that has asked!
It's Friday - and a special weekend for many men out there - especially my DH.
You see, Sunday is not just Father's Day, but it is also DH's Birthday (and a milestone one at that!). So a Father's Day card and a Birthday card just didn't seem to hold as much significance as I needed them to! So I made him A Book Of Love.
Here's what I have been cooking up the past few days, after everyone was asleep!

A Book Of Love:
Dimensions 5" w x 6 1/2" h.

Materials: CS - white (CTMH), purple, green (Bazzill), navy (Generations); PP - Olive Parlor Stripe, Sandbox stripe, Nook stripe (Chatterbox); Ink - Bashful Blue (SU!), Cranberry, Pansy Purple, Blush (CTMH), Stamps - heart (Michaels), Birthday Bash (CTMH); Punches - Word Window, Ticket Corner, 1 3/8" circle (SU!), 1/4" hole (Staples); Ribbon - blue grosgrain, purple striped grosgrain (ribbon share texasjodylynn); Cuttlebug, CB alphabet die cut - Olivia (Provocraft), white embroidery thread (DMC), paper piercer.mat (Making Memories), computer font, Canon photo paper, 2-way glue pen (ZIG), white photo hanger (CTMH), pop dots, mini glue dots, deco scissors (Fiskars).

I made this book from 2 cards tied together on the spine with embroidery thread, and then I decorated a 2-page spread from each of us: me, DD, DS. I found some great poems about Dad on the internet and picked one from each of us - to go with the photos I wanted to use.

Here's my double page spread. The poem is called "What Makes A Dad" and I used photos that are special to both of us - of our family.
Here's the poem:

What Makes A Dad
God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,

The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it ... "DAD!"

And here's my daughter's page.
Here's the poem:

My daddy is the greatest;
The best dad there ever was.
He always brings me lots of joy;
He’s my very own Santa Claus.
My daddy can do anything;

He’s smart as smart can be.
I love to walk and hold his hand
To show he belongs to me.
I love my daddy!
By Karl Fuchs

And here's my son's page.
Here's the poem:

Dad, I'm blessed to be your son
I knew it from the start.
You're a first-class father;
You're loving, kind, and smart.
You show me how to be a man

You help me, guide me, along the way.
You're strong, and yet you're gentle, too.
I hope I'm just like you, someday!
By Joanna Fuchs

(Disclaimer - No little boys were hurt in the making of this photo! Smile!)

I hope he likes it! He can keep it with him in his office, when he needs a bit of a lift!
I hope you have a special weekend planned for yourself!
Until next time, have a great day!

Do the Funky Chicken

Today I decided to do the weekly Split Coast Stampers Card Sketch Challenge (#128). This is a first for me. I love to look at them, but have never tried one of them. Here's my take on today's Sketch - and you can find the link to the thread on SCS for all the details - if you want to play along with me - HERE.

Funky Chicken SC128:
Card dimensions 5 1/2" w x 4 1/4" h.

Materials: CS - Love Paisley, lime green, light teal (My Mind's Eye), White (CTMH); Stamp - Walk This Way (retired SU!); Giga scalloped circle punch (Marvy Uchida), paper piercer/mat (Making Memories), scalloped deco scissors (Fiskars), Ink - Black (CTMH), ribbon (Wild Asparagus), prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stump.

I think this chicken looks SO funky! I wanted to use up the scraps left from yesterday's Turtle Tuesday card, and I was in the mood for some fun colours!!! Why don't you give the Card Sketch a try too?
Until next time, have a great day!

Exciting Day! And Turtle Tuesday! What could be better?

Happy Turtle Tuesday everyone!

And I have fun news! Before I show you today's turtle card, I wanted to share something that I am so happy to tell you about! Heidi over at Sweet Somethings has featured me today on her blog for a new showcase she is doing every Tuesday - True Talent Tuesday!
What an honour - to be asked to do this, and to be her first feature!

So to honour this - I designed 4 little cards I am calling "Everything But The Kitchen Sink" - just for Heidi's blog! They feature the Kitchen stamp cube from Sunshine Designs and are done with watercolouring using Tombow markers (since I know Heidi is a fan of my coloured cards!) Want to see them? Well, they are only on Heidi's blog! Make sure you check out the direct link to this feature, and these cards, here - True Talent Tuesday.

And Heidi - send me an e-mail with your snail mail address - and I'll get those 4 little cards off to you right away - as a little thank you!

Now on to today's Turtle Tuesday card! I did it in the same design layout as the cards for Heidi - since I was on a roll with the Tent Topper cards! Hope you like it!

Tent Topper Turtle:
Card dimensions 4 1/4" w x 5 1/2" h.

Materials: Stamp - flower turtle (Inky Antics); Paper - Love Paisley (My Mind's Eye), Watercolour paper (Hilroy); Ink - Archival Black (CTMH); paper piercer/mat (Making Memories); Punches - Giga scalloped circle, Mega circle (Marvy Uchida); Tombow markers, waterbrush (CTMH), butterfly (Flutter Stickease, CTMH), pink grosgrain ribbon (Wild Asparagus).

I hope everyone is having a great start to the warm weather season! I know I am! Hope to see you again!
Until next time, have a great day!

"Ruff" Day!

First things first, I want to send out a BIG THANK YOU to everyone for the sweet comments on the little painted turtle from yesterday. That little guy sat on my desk for a month and a half waiting for me to see if I would do anything with him – and now I’m so glad I did! Thanks for the encouragement!!!

Today’s card is yet another special request (I’ve had a few of those these past weeks!) for someone who is off work recuperating from an injury - someone who is feeling “RUFF”!

Feeling RUFF:
Card dimensions – 5 1/2” w x 8 1/2” h.

Materials: CS – Cocoa, White (CTMH), lime green, patterned paisley (Wild Asparagus); Ink –Black (CTMH); Stamp – Beggar (Inky Antics); Punches – ¼” hole (Staples), corner rounder (EK Success), paper piercer/ mat (Making Memories), brown embroidery thread (DMC), computer font, mini pop dots, Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stump, Exacto knife/mat.

For this card, it was to be from a group of people, so I added extra pieces of paper inside – attaching them to the spine of the card with embroidery thread. This way everyone can sign inside. I trimmed regular 8 ½” x 11” copy paper by ¼” inch on one long and one short side, so that the paper would not mistakenly hang out the sides or top, and be seen. I used an Exacto knife to cut around the bottom of the dog’s paws, so that I could slip the little sign under his paws so that it looks like he is holding it. For the sign, I matched the r/g/b codes on the computer to match the font colour to Cocoa from CTMH – so that it all matches! A little piercing on the photo corner to finish it off and that’s it done!

I hope you don’t have a “RUFF” day yourself!

Until next time, have a great day!

Turtle Tuesday!

Happy Turtle Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great weekend as well!

Today’s card is one that I am not 100 percent sure I like, but here it is anyway! I got a little carried away with the watercoloured grass, and the colours really aren’t “me” – but what can you do? I’m experimenting!

Paisley Turtle:
Card dimensions – 4 1/4” w x 3 3/4” h.

Materials: CS – Black (CTMH), Turquoise (Bazzill); Watercolour Paper (Hilroy); Ink – Archival Black, Black (CTMH); Stamp – Flower Turtle (Inky Antics), Paisley BG (SU!); grosgrain ribbon (ribbon share texasjodylynn), Punches – Ticket corner punch (SU!), Tombow markers, waterbrush (CTMH).

I’m really enjoying working with the Tombow markers for colouring – it gives you a very different result from the Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol Magic technique (which I love!). Tomorrow’s card is yet another Inky Antics Furry Friend (same line as last Friday’s card) – for someone who is feeling “RUFF”! Make sure you drop by!

Until next time, have a great day!

Help from my friends!

Happy Friday!
Today’s card was a request from DH – to give to his staff as an extra special Thank You to them for helping out “over and above” on a very stressful day this week….a day we hope never comes around again! Since it was an important card, I wanted to add a few extra little details, to make it extra special. Hope I hit the mark!

I get by with a little help from my friends:
Card dimensions – 6 1/2” w x 5” h.

Materials: CS – White, Cocoa (CTMH), Barely Banana (SU!); PP – Cocoa CafĂ© Designer Collection (CTMH); Ink – Black, Cocoa (CTMH); Stamp – Cats ‘N Dogs (Inky Antics); satin ribbon (Offray), Punches – Word Window, Slit punch (SU!), Paper piercer/mat (Making Memories), White Signo gel pen, Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol, blending stump, Buttercup button (CTMH), jump ring, computer font.

There’s actually a lot going on in this card, with all the little details:

  • CS mat edges distressed with open blade of scissors
  • White CS with image inked with Cocoa ink pad to highlight
  • Extended Word Window to fit the sentiment
  • Computer font colour for sentiment to match Cocoa from CTMH
  • Scalloped edge of yellow CS done using the slit punch
  • Piercings on scallops were outlined in white gel pen to draw attention to them
  • Letter C on large dog’s tag – for my DH’s name, and workplace name

I wish everyone a safe and happy weekend – Enjoy!
Until next time, have a great day!
